San Diego Beauty and FitnessAnatomy: a Spa in the Heart of HillcrestGeared toward the guys, but girls are welcome too By Rebekah Sager • Mon, Mar 21st, 2011Read More: Anatomy , San Diego spa , Hillcrest , Charles Sarosy , Hairspray Salon , Barry's Boot camp , Eden restaurant
There are hundreds of day spas in San Diego, but most of them really target half their potential customers -- and men are not going to be left out any longer. Owner of the new Anatomy Day Spa and Boutique, local plastic surgeon Dr. Charles Sarosy, took ownership of the spa with the idea of offering every “man-service” possible. These services range from the "Gentleman’s facial" to the “Playboy” -- a full waxing of all the parts down under -- to all of the traditional treatments as well: massage, (Hot Stone is their most popular), Vitamin B12 shots, fillers, micro-dermabrasians, glycolic peels, Foto facials, tattoo and laser hair removal, and medical weight loss. Anatomy has been in existence for fifteen years, but under the new ownership, it has found its niche with the gay community of Hillcrest. Although Dr. Sarosy owns another spa downtown called Sente Bella, this one’s the only one geared toward men. Located along University Avenue, in the heart of Hillcrest, Anatomy draws customers from the neighboring uber popular Barry’s Boot camp, Hairspray Salon, and most recently the very chic Eden restaurant and nightclub. The day spa has a partnership with all three, and offers specials and incentives to lure people in. Regional Manager Briana O’Brian says that aligning with other local businesses in the community, even a resounding endorsement from the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News Organization, not only helps the spa increase business, but it’s one of the only ways to survive in the neighborhood. It’s not a hard sell to get people into the spa. They offer a huge array of treatment options, and the prices are extremely competitive. Currently, one of the real hits at Anatomy is the Dream Slim diet program. Exclusively designed for clients of Anatomy, it’s some combinations of Vitamin B12, B6, Lypovite, and HCG, in conjunction with an appetite suppressant, and of course the requisite diet and exercise. “People want an outcome. Treatments that don’t give results are a waste of time and money,” says O’Brian. Men are a fast growing audience to the spa world. Historically, they’ve been into fitness, but spas were places for women to go and do “women things”, and men were left out. Today’s guy thinks of fitness with regard to his skin and body—the metro man is everywhere—even in the day spa.
