Photo by Cause for Celebration ABC Bachelorette finalist Kiptyn Locke served as honorary chair for a friendly evening highlighted by wine, cuisine, and exciting surprises, including personally carved wineglasses by Tom Bwarie. Who Came?: Bachelorette friends Tenley Molzahn with Roberto Martinez, and his bride Ali Fedotowsky. From sponsor A-Med were Kathy Thomas, Winnie and George Kridner. From Vertex Pharmaceuticals: Heather Clark, Tracy Bychowski, and Debbie Negulescu. There were Sisters Savannah and Brianna Remington who moved to San Diego recently from Chicago to keep close to their younger brother who has CF. Rev. Christian DeMent and his new bride Kelli (he's at Foothills United Methodist in La Mesa). Also Darla Davis, Dr. Chris Gualtieri, Cathy Galvin, Raven Rozzelle, Barb Darby, Jeann Hartley, Susan and Roy Henkle, Rob and Lauren Jones, Helen Miller, Tom Ruggiero, Gary Spicer, Chris Kuhlmey, Stephanie Halac, CF Captain Michelle Ross, Eric Koster, Fausto Ochoa, Roxy Canola, John Stover, Cheryl Polk, Rebecca Robinson, Lori Krause and Brian Jeffries. The Cause: As recently as the 1960s, most children diagnosed with cystic fibrosis didn’t live to attend grade school. Today, the median age of survival is 37, thanks to dramatic advances in research and medical care. With more than two dozen potential therapies in the pipeline, the future for families affected by CF is brighter than ever before. And that’s positive new for the 30,000 people affected by CF in the United States alone and more than 10 million Americans who are symptom-less carriers of the CF gene. The Good-Hearted: A team of 20 local restaurants and wineries helped “Uncork the Cure.” Beverage partners included Artesa Winery, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse (BJ’s Alex Puchner offered tips on beer tasting), Brassfield Estate Winery, Coquelicot Estate Vineyard, Donelan Family Wines, Karma Tequila, Malibu Family Winery, Ortman Family Winery, Pernod Ricard Wines, PRP Wine International, Rhys Vineyards, Saint James Spirits, St. Petersburg Vodka, and Wiens Family Cellars. Restaurant partners included Basic Urban Kitchen, BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Cali Comfort, Chocolate Haven, Cupcake Love, Oceanaire Seafood Room, the Palm, The Pearl, Proper, Sole Luna Café, Quality Social, and more. The Creative: Green and white uplights helped soften the industrial edge of the space, while the two main rooms of the warehouse space were neatly divided to spread out the offerings of wine, cuisine, silent auction, jazzy music, beer sampling, and formal presentations. While enjoying the cool vibes of the talented Doug Walker Quintet , guests mingled, grazed and purchased tickets to an enticing opportunity drawing. Hopeful guests set their sights on winning the grand prize: A week-long stay in Maui! Get Involved: To join the fight against Cystic Fibrosis, please contact the San Diego Chapter and sign up to attend the Sept 25th Breath of Life Gala!
