Everyone remembers where they were on 9/11/2001. Respect. ![]() September 10: Eddie Money at 4th & B. Courtesy photo Not everyone knows what they’ll be doing on9/11/2010, but if getting out and seeing some live music is part of your agenda – we’ve got a good list here. September 10: Pearl/Taz Taylor Where: Dream Street Live Tickets: No cover before 7 p.m. This is a line-up of great local talent, including the sexy Jodi V from National City (hip-hop/soul), Fourth Wave and Kareem. Taz Taylor is a local guitar whiz that has made a lot of noise, and draws many comparisons to the greats. The former Rainbow singer was briefly playing with Taylor, but now he’s working with a new front man. Catch him now before he appears on the cover of Guitar Magazine. Another band on the rise – Pearl – has Meatloaf's sexy daughter singing, and her fiancé is the bassist – Scott Ian. Most people know him (and his long goatee) from his days in Anthrax. A mere $10 to see Rockola in the lounge, with a great view of boats on the water, or almost $100 to see the Beach Boys with Russ T. Nailz hosting the event and cracking up the crowd? The former 91X DJ still delivers the laughs. And, sometimes you can get a laugh or two watching the guys in Hawaiian shirts singing Kokomo, who are rumored to now lip sync their songs (and with only two “original” members). It might be nice to get down to Humphrey’s before the weather really starts getting cold. At that time, I couldn’t get into his jazz fusion stuff. This Harvard graduate has been nominated for many Grammys, and in the guitar world, he’s known for his tapping technique (the same style Eddie Van Halen got known for). He’s played with Dizzy Gillespie and Quincy Jones, and he’s supporting his first release in over a decade (which of course, is up for a Grammy). He’ll probably sit on the piano for a few tunes as well. If you want to see a variety of local bands, from the alternative sounds of Crystal Wyatt, to the headbanging metal of Comfort of Rage, as well as Sunday Girl, and The Fooks (think Dropkick Murphy’s), they’re all doing a 9/11 benefit called Flight 93 at Brick by Brick that same night. He left that behind, going to California with an achin’ in his heart, to pursue music. He brought his guitar and sax playing to many hits in the 1970s and '80s – "Take Me Home Tonight," "Two Tickets to Paradise," "Baby Hold On," and two songs that got huge with the help of MTV, which was just starting out – "Shakin’" (with the girls and lowriders) and "Think I’m in Love." After a few years dealing with drug problems, he came back strong using Ronnie Spector on the hit "Take Me Home Tonight." His list of hits goes on and on, but I think it’s the underrated "Give Me Some Water," that is the best of the bunch. That last time I remember Money being in town was about 10 years ago throwing out a pitch for a Padres game, and doing a small concert in the parking lot. They’re that all-female pop-punk band out of Japan, that broke onto the underground scene in 1981. They’ve got a huge cult following that included Sonic Youth and Nirvana (believe it or not, they cite The Beach Boys as a major influence). Only one of the Yamano sisters, Naoko, is still with the band (she’s the lead singer/guitarist), and I’ve heard they still put on a great show. They’ll be supported by The Dabbers, the duo with the drummer from Kill Me Tomorrow and the bassist from Braaiins; Jungle Fever is also on the bill.
