Sunday Fun Day alert: Loews Coronado Bay Resort’s Blues, Brews & Barbecue brunch is happening now. And trust me—you don’t want to miss out. ![]() Blues, Brews and Barbecue. Photo courtesy of Loews Coronado Bay Resort The brainchild of world-renowned master French chef Marc Ehrler (who hails from the French Riviera), Blues, Brews & Barbecue features music, food, drinks and fun for patrons of all ages. Yachters, hotel guests, and San Diego “foodies” alike are bound to feel at home at this brunch, which boasts more of a buoyant backyard barbecue feel than a traditional Sunday brunch offers. (I actually had a surprise run-in with my yachting friends; they had just docked their boat at Loews’ 80-slip marina, and stopped in to enjoy the music and fare.) Meat-lovers, bring your appetites—this brunch offers plenty of palate-pleasing selections right up your alley—beer can ribs, barbecue chicken, roast suckling pig and slow-roasted beef brisket, to name a few. Barbecue addicts can also indulge in baked beans, grilled corn on the cob, cornbread and macaroni and cheese. Those wary of meat need not worry; this brunch has plenty of offerings for the not-so-down-home-type, and even those watching their waistlines. A full salad bar (where patrons can choose from healthy options like the citrus, jicama, cucumber salad; or flex their creative muscles by building their own healthy concoctions) is available. Also offered: a medley of fresh seasonal berries—not to mention the most delicious granola-yogurt parfaits I have ever had the pleasure of tasting (this coming from a true parfait enthusiast.) Additional healthy alternatives offered include marinated veggies, fresh salmon, and the create-your-own omelet station. I indulged in an egg-white omelet with bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes—delicious. (Not to discount the bacon and cheese-filled concoctions I eyed on other brunch aficionados’ plates.) Speaking of cheese, be sure to check out the impressive cheese spread at this brunch—and might I suggest pairing it with one of a plethora of artisan breads nearby (or the fruit garnishing the board)? Yum. Blues, Brews & Barbecue attendees can enjoy upbeat blues music inspired by B.B. King, John Lee Hooker and Jeff Beck while brunching, not to mention sip mimosas or Karl Strauss draft beers to their heart’s desire. Dessert devotees, be certain to salvage some room somewhere between the mimosas and the fabulous fare; a chocolate fondue fountain—accompanied by fresh strawberries and pineapples, pound cake, and marshmallows—flows at this brunch’s dessert bar every Sunday. (I witnessed a little tike attempt to lunge himself head-first into the fountain—who can blame him?) Bite-sized cheesecake, crème brulee, brownies, chocolate mousse “shots”, and fruit tarts are also part of the tantalizing spread. Blues, Brews & Barbecue is offered every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Loews’ Market Café (which features indoor and outdoor seating). The cost for adults is $38; children ages 5-12 can partake for $19. advertisement | your ad here
