On a recent evening in April in Old Town San Diego, Mark Twain dusted off his white suit and addressed the diners in attendance at a cigar dinner presented by Churchill's Cigar Lounge. The group was seated on the patio at Jack & Giulios Italian restaurant. the restarant and the cigar lounge are within a block of each other on San Diego avenue in Old Town.

Holding forth on everything from his once failed run for Governor to his wonderment at cel phones, Mr. Twain spoke in impromptu style for nearly 20 minutes. In fact, Mark Twain aka Samuel Clemens, author of the American classic Huckleberry Finn, was being channeled by one Tennessee Webb. Mr. Webb knows a great deal about the life of his muse, Mark Twain. He produced and directed a one man show as Twain at the Spreckels Theater here in San Diego in 2004. He presented a second version of the show in Miami last year at Cinematheque and will reprise the role this August at a theater in Los Angeles.

According to Webb, Twain even has a connection to San Diego. While Twain was widely traveled and wrote humorous travelogues of his trips, he never actually visited San Diego. Twain and General Ulysses S. Grant were dining and cigar smoking partners. Through Grant, Twain broke a 7 year writing block that had prevented him from completing the famous novel about fictional Finn. Grant's son, for whom the US Grant Hotel downtown is named, is buried here in San Diego.

With a degree in International Law and a practice that followed, Tennessee's love for acting led him into theater and film both as actor and producer.
