In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a parade will be held in downtown San Diego on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. The event, the 31st annual parade in San Diego, is hosted by the Zeta Sigma Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, the oldest black fraternity in the country. Dr. King himself was a member of the fraternity.

The parade will begin at Tailgate Park near Petco Park (13th Street and Imperial Avenue). It will proceed down Imperial Avenue to Park Boulevard, then down Tony Gwynn Drive to J Street, Eleventh Avenue and end at Tailgate Park.

The parade, which promotes peace and cultural pride, will feature college and high school bands, drill teams, parade floats community organizations.

Allow extra time for parking and maneuvering downtown, as roads will be closed to accommodate the parade route. Admission is free, and approximately 20,000 attendees are expected.
