The San Diego Children's Discovery Museum’s benefit event could not have landed on a more beautiful evening in Escondido. Held May 3 at the rock-landscaped Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens, surrounded by foliage and low lights, supporters of the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum gathered for the 10-year anniversary of the museum and its annual fundraising event. Formerly known as the Escondido Children’s Museum, the non-profit also celebrated a new name, which emphasizes the mission of the museum: to inspire and educate children throughout the San Diego region through exploration, imagination and experimentation. "As we celebrate the Museum's 10th anniversary, the new name reflects our deeply rooted commitment to highly engaging, interactive and imaginative learning experiences to be discovered," says San Diego Children's Discovery Museum Board of Directors Chair Catherine Sanders in a press release. "Our dedication to the family learning experience drives everything we do." At the event, Catherine was a gracious host and praised her team for coordinating such a fantastic event. The museum was very happy to be able to hold the event at Stone World Bistro & Gardens. "This is an incredible time in the life of this great organization, and we are excited to be a part of it," says Stone Brewing Co. CEO Greg Koch in a press release. The bistro was pleased to support another local organization by hosting the event. The menu focuses on farm-to-table food, with plenty of locally grown vegetables and house-made condiments, which is always a positive sign that the chef, Alex Carballo, has a commitment to quality. The location was not only a draw to visitors for its famous beer, but for the beautiful space as well; with the large warehouse windows open to the garden and the Brazilian band Solemar providing music, the open-air patio was a serene setting for the casual event. A Night of Discovery featured – in addition to the music, beer tasting and food—a silent auction full of dozens of donated prizes, from vacations to artwork to Stone World Bistro & Gardens gift certificates and more. Proceeds from the event are used toward support of the museum and its special programs and exhibits. At the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, children can experience hands-on learning through exhibits such as the Wildlife Tree House --where children can climb and learn about creatures that live within trees—and World Religions in our Community—which teaches about the holidays special to faith communities within San Diego.
