San Diego NewsTop Ten Most & Least Expensive Cities for Living, Groceries, CoffeeFour California cities occupy Top 10 highest cost of living By Paul Richter • Wed, Nov 2nd, 2011The group Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) has released its quarterly Cost of Living (COL) report on the ten most expensive urban US cities to live in, accompanied by the ten least expensive cities. The organization, which was founded in 1961 and harbors more than 500 members in government and community agencies in the United States and Canada, released the study last week. Most won’t find these stats too surprising; metro areas in New York and California top the most expensive list, while almost half of the least expensive cities reside inside the state of Texas. C2ER took the living costs of 309 cities in America, and indexed the average at 100. The #1 most expensive city to live in is Manhattan, a whopping 223% above the average, and 241% higher cost of living than Harlingen TX, the least expensive city. In their outline report, C2ER offered additional insight to the top 5 most and least expensive cities for grocery items (using the cost-of-living index of 100 as the average) and for a 11 oz. can of coffee (average cost between the 309 cities was $4.82).
