The Theatre Organ Society of San Diego presented their Silent Movie Night preceded by a vintage car show from the Antique Automobile Club of America. 2009 Organist of the year, Christian Elliott, accompanied three silent films on the Mighty Wurlitzer organ, and in the audience were members of the Laurel and Hardy Saps at Sea Tent - local Laurel and Hardy aficionados.

Balboa Park was the setting for the second community Diwali Festival, the annual Festival of Lights celebrated all over India and the world. Hosted by the Mingei International Museum and the San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego's colorful festival featured arts, a cultural program and procession, music, dancing, Indian food, family activities and the traditional ceremonial lighting of lamps made in India.

Wonder Morton Organ Showcase Concert at the Balboa Theatre

San Diego Civic Organist Dr. Carol Williams played the Wonder Morton Organ at the Balboa Theatre in a showcase concert emceed by News 8 Meteorologist Shawn Styles. The concert's American Songbook favorites and Broadway show tunes combined to show off the superb features of the newly-restored Silent Film Era Wonder Morton Organ, one of five such pipe organs commissioned by the Loew's Theater chain for movie palaces in the New York area.

The home of Sally and Greg Ricchiuti proved a picturesque backdrop for a celebration dedicated to raising funds for the revitalization of La Jolla's Fire Station #9. Nearly 150 guests turned out to recognize the courageous service of La Jolla's first responders, and to pay tribute to a dear friend, Brent Woodall, who died in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The Give in Kind to Fire Station 9 event raised $27,000, bringing the fire station restoration campaign a significant step closer to reaching its $400,000 fundraising goal.
