San Diego DTownWHAT'S NEW: Analog's Super Karaoke SceneSing for your supper, backed by a three-piece band By Ron Donoho • Fri, Jul 30th, 2010![]() Super Karaoke at Analog. Photo by Ron Donoho The Gaslamp Quarter’s newest burger bar, Analog, is now open for business. I attended a soft opening party earlier in the month and was impressed with the décor (1970s and ‘80s record albums as art) and the food (so good we were laying in wait near the kitchen for servers passing out apps). Now, the joint (at Fifth and F Street) is fully open for business. Duty driven, I went back for the grand opening party. This time, the Super Karaoke scene was in full swing. You know how regular karaoke works—a track plays and you warble the words, sometimes to the delight of the audience. Super Karaoke involves singing the lyrics backed by a live, three-piece band. Singers (or reasonable facsimiles) stand in front of the audience and belt it out. Feel the power. Own the stage. Be overcome with delusions of grandeur. (I noticed a DJ has the power to lower the audio for the lead microphone. Wise idea.) Super Karaoke happens Friday and Saturday nights from 7-10 p.m. Patrons peruse a song sheet just like they do in old-fashioned karaoke, which is in vogue all other nights, except Monday, when Analog is dark. Analogis a partnership between Cohn Restaurant Group (this is number 14 for the Cohns) and nightlife entrepreneur Matt Spencer (Firehouse in Pacific Beach; downtown’s Vin de Syrah). Spencer is co-operating partner with Tyler Charman; the design was handled by Michael Soriano.
