Have you ever wanted to ask San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers a question? Now you can. Throughout the 2011 season each week Rivers will post a video feed on PhilipRivers.com answering a question submitted by a fan. The concept is to help foster an open line of communication between the fans and the team while also promoting the Rivers of Hope Foundation that benefits San Diego foster children.

Rivers wants fans to visit his website to ask him a question and to take the time to learn more about the Rivers of Hope foundation by reading an article or watching one of the many featured videos.

“That is the ultimate objective of anything we do with the website,” Rivers said. “At the same time, we want to continue to have some updated football stuff on there. Any time you can get people to the site and to be informed; whether they are able to donate their time, money, or spread the word; it’s all beneficial. Awareness is the biggest thing.”

Rivers encourages fans to ask all sorts of questions and he promises to choose from a spectrum of topics to answer. “I think it is really for the fans. Whatever is intriguing to them. A question may be about a game, practice, our work schedule, or things I like to do with my own kids. You never know, there may be a 10-year-old who has a question that can be impactful to him and others.”

Rivers of Hope is entering its second year and this is the latest concept to help promote the foundation. “I kind of like the idea,” Rivers said. “It keeps the connection there with the fans. Again, ultimately it’s about trying to get these foster kids hope.”

The first year of the foundation was a resounding success. The Heart Gallery showcasing professional pictures of adoptable children led to double digit adoptions in its inaugural year. “That in itself makes it a successful year,” Rivers said.

Another major accomplishment came when Rivers partnered with Quentin and Alicia Jammer to help finish construction of a new football field for the San Pasqual Academy, a live-in high school for foster children. This season the Dragons will be able to finally play home games.

“That was an accomplishment that will affect those kids and last forever. As we move into year two, I would like to find another big project like that. Not necessarily a football field. Obviously helping finding the kids homes first, but something else tangible that can be long lasting.”

Recently the Jammers held the 2nd Annual Jammin Under the Stars Fundraiser, a benefit for the Jammer Family Foundation and the San Pasqual Academy. At the event Quentin expressed his gratitude to Philip for getting involved and realizing the goal of the football field originally started by the Jammers. “Thank you, Philip,” Quentin emotionally said. “I love you and I appreciate you! From the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you enough for getting involved.”

This is just one example of how the charity work the Chargers do off the field helps foster a true team unity. Stronger bonds lead to a willingness and a desire to make personal sacrifices to help teammates on the field which has the power to translate into more wins.
