I Coach of the Year By Hannah Martine • Mon, Apr 4th, 2011The San Diego State Aztecs have a lot to celebrate at the commencement of the 2010-2011 basketball season: the team’s first national ranking in school history (climbing as high as No. 4), the first Division I NCAA tournament game win (followed by another win), the first appearance in the Sweet 16, the best record (34-3) in program history, a Mountain West Conference regular season co-champion award, a record 13 sold out home games, and Coach Steve Fisher’s recent honor, the Adolph F. Rupp Cup, which is awarded by media, coaches and college administrators. And, if all that wasn’t enough, on Sunday evening, Coach Steve Fisher was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ Division I national coach of the year. This award is determined by fellow coaches, making it a special honor to the recipient. Join Fisher and the Aztecs as they celebrate a monumental season at a rally on Monday, April 4, at 12:15 p.m., on the Free Speech Steps, located on the north end of the Aztec Center at San Diego State University. Among players, coaches, students and supporters, expected to attend to help celebrate are San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and other city council officials. Parking for attendees is available on Levels 1-3 of Parking Structure 6, on the east side of campus, for $1 per hour.
