San Diego SportsFootball Team Catches Passes, And CriminalsThe San Diego Enforcers are a semi-pro team of public safety employees By Dan McLellan • Fri, Apr 23rd, 2010![]() Linebacker Jason Burk of the San Diego Sheriff Department. Photo by Dan McLellan “We Catch Criminals, We Catch Passes, We Catch Breast Cancer.” That's the San Diego Enforcers 2010 slogan. Who are the Enforcers? The San Diego Enforcers are a semi-pro football team comprised of San Diego County law enforcement officers, paramedics, and firefighters. They compete in the National Public Safety Football League (NPSFL). This year the Enforcers have two goals: (1) raise money for this year’s selected team charity, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and (2) win the NPSFL’s national championship. Beginning the season 4-0, the Enforcers are off on a strong start toward bringinga national title home to San Diego; but these law enforcement heroes need your help raising funds for their charity. To support the Enforcers and help them meet their charitable goals, you can attend one of their final two games of the season. All profits from ticket and food sales will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The Enforcer's April 23 home game is the Hero Bowl IV, against the NY Bravest (FDNY), comprised of members of New York’s Fire Department. On May 8 the Enforcers conclude the regular season by taking on their rivals, the LAPD Centurions (LAPD), comprised of members of the Los Angeles Police Department. Each year Enforcers President Jason Sullivan chooses a game to designate as the Hero Bowl, and it usually is against the opponent deemed the toughest on the schedule to promote a marquee matchup. This year, Hero Bowl IV promises to live up to that billing. The NY Bravest won the NPSFL Championship in 2008 and have been perennial contenders since the formation of the league. New York provides FDNY with a large player pool and many talented athletes who love playing a hard-nosed game of football. However, the Enforcers should be up for the challenge. Last year our San Diego heroes went 5-0 and if it were not for a technicality in the previous season they would have played in the national championship game. This year, the Enforcers are championship eligible and have continued their winning streak. The Enforcershave a realistic shot at a national title and will have a lot on the line in the final two games of the regular season. “If we win both games, we will be in the rare and fortunate situation to be the host city and be the team to play for the nation championship,” says Sullivan. The April 23 game will kick off at 5 p.m. at Cathedral Catholic High School in Carmel Valley. Tickets are$10.
