Last Thursday night, the Sockers played in the semifinals of the U.S Open Cup and defeated Vitesse Dallas, 11-7, to advance to the finals, where they will play the Louisville Lightning.

Dallas played the Sockers surprisingly well and had the game tied late at 7-7. With only 4:29 remaining, Chiky Luna put the Sockers ahead with his fourth goal of the night and then less than a minute later with 3:25 remaining, Luna added some insurance with his fifth goal of the night.

Luna’s five goals all came in the second half, including a hat trick in the third quarter.

Hard work, according to Luna, is what sparked his barrage of scoring. “I went into halftime, and my shot was not on. Going into the half, I said, ‘I am going to relax and work hard.’ My teammates did a great job of setting me up, and the shots fell in.”

Luna believed that the good play of Dallas was a great lesson for the Sockers. “I thought they were going to be shell-shocked coming into the game and into our home environment," he says. "I did not think they were going to be able to hang with us. It was a great experience to have this game going into the playoffs so that in the playoffs, when we step out on the field, we will not be overconfident.”

Still, Luna is not afraid voice some confidence that the Sockers ability to win the PASL Pro Championship: “I am very confident in this team. At home, we a very hard to beat, and our fans are great."

Note: Louisville will host the Open Cup Finals game on a date yet to be determined. Likely, this game will be at the end of March or early April.
