San Diego SportsThe Chargers Block PartyAn opportunity to party with your favorite Chargers By Dan McLellan • Sun, Nov 22nd, 2009This Friday night, November 27, will be party night! According to Jim Steeg the San Diego Chargers Executive Vice President and C.O.O., “Hopefully it will be just a fun night!” Steeg was commenting on the first ever Chargers Block Party. The party is the culminating event of the franchises 50th anniversary celebration and a public forum to introduce the 50 greatest players and 3 coaches that the fans elected with over 400,000 online votes. Typically events that honor individuals on the scale that the Chargers are honoring their 50 Greatest Players of All-Time would be an expensive banquet with extremely limited seating. The Chargers did not want to do that with this celebration. They wanted the official induction of the honorees to be a venue accessible to everyone.

What we thought was the best way for the fans attached to players was to have something that they could all attend at a reasonable price.” Speaking of the Block Party Steeg said, “We really thought the best way to do this was to give the opportunity for six to eight thousand fans to come down and mingle with them, see them and present them in a close setting.” The highlight of the event will be the announcement of the 50 great players by Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Enberg. More than 40 of honorees will be present including Dan Fouts, Lance Alworth, Don Coryell, Kellen Winslow, John Jefferson, Charlie Joiner, Wes Chandler, Natrone Means, Stan Humphries, Bobby Ross, and all 11 of the current Charger players to receive the honor. In addition to members of the 50 Greatest Players, Steeg reported, “We expect 75 to 100 alumni to attend as well.” All of these past and present players will be mingling with the fans. “You are going to find a lot of Chargers and a lot of Chargers personnel among the whole crowd.” Live bands Fountains of Wayne and Super Diamond will be performing starting at 5:15 P.M. Some of San Diego’s finest DJ’s will also be providing additional music. Tickets for the Block Party are $35.00 each in advance and $40.00 on the day of the event.
