Harbor Island
Harbor Island is a man-made peninsula in the San Diego Bay. There are less than 1000 residents of Harbor Island, but there is plenty to do for visitors of all ages. The peninsula is only two miles long, with one road going from one end to the other. If you don’t want to drive a car, several marinas are available that can accommodate numerous small boats while you spend your day enjoying the sights and attractions.
Places to Stay
There are two lodging options if you want to stay directly on Harbor Island: Hilton San Diego Airport Harbor Island and Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. If you don’t want to stay right on the island, there are plenty of options in other neighborhoods that will fit your needs, such as luxury resorts, family-friendly lodging, and pet-friendly hotels.
Hotels with ocean views and beach access typically book up quite fast, so it’s helpful to book as soon as you know you want to visit Harbor Island, preferably around six months in advance. It’s good to look at available amenities and packages to make sure you’re getting the most for your money.
Restaurants
There are a few options for food directly on Harbor Island, including seafood and Mexican options. The restaurants offer stunning views and some, including Coasterra, offer a weekday happy hour featuring signature cocktails to help break up a stressful work week.
If you want more variety, you can step off Harbor Island and have even more options available for you, including casual, family-friendly restaurants ans intimate places to take a date. Whatever you are in the mood for, you are sure to find it either directly on Harbor Island or nearby.
Attractions and Shopping
One popular thing Harbor Island has to offer is Harbor Island Park. This park offers restrooms, picnic tables, a walking path on the shoreline, and exceptional views of the city skyline. While Harbor Island might be small, it’s still in a good location with big attractions such as the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld San Diego, museums, theaters, aquariums, and others nearby.
There are not many shopping locations directly on Harbor Island, but if you venture off the peninsula a little bit, you’ll be met with a variety of options, including everything from upscale boutiques to more casual shops.
Outdoor Recreation
Harbor Island is best known for outdoor activities such as speed boat adventures, rides in a Navy Seal Rigid Inflatable Boat known as an R.I.B., and sailing tours. There are plenty of good spots available along the San Diego Bay for fishing and stores close by for all of your fishing needs, such as bait and tackle. There are no beaches directly on Harbor Island, but several are close by with spots for sunbathing, swimming, picnicking, and surfing.
